www.mamiusa.com

In both the residential or commercial real estate marketplace owners need to maintain various insurance policies to protect their assets. In many cases, certain types of insurance are mandated by law similar to having car insurance in Florida, others are voluntary and provide an extra cushion of protection. The types of commercial insurance available range in price and coverage, the same is true regarding residential real estate. This can be a complex process, so it’s best to consult an insurance broker that can clearly explain the details.

In general, Florida is a rainy town and the more rain the higher the chance a flood can occur. This is a reality in inland communities and next to the shorelines across South Florida. The issue for many homes, condos, and buildings concerned with flood hazards is a combination of drainage issues and storm protection. Speaking with an agent from M.A.M.I. Insurance will get you up to speed with your particular commercial insurance or residential insurance needs. Typically, there’s a 30-day waiting period—from date of purchase—before your policy goes into effect. The sooner you start this process the better.

M.A.M.I. Insurance provides excellent onsite service and knows the ins and outs of the residential and commercial insurance business. Here, Daniel and Carlos of M.A.M.I. are photographed onsite at the Millennium Bay Harbour condominium.

They provided various types of commercial insurance and were able to develop a strategy that reduced cost and streamlined their coverage. For example, in this project they dealt with insurance products ranging from Commercial Residential Flood, Builders Risk Insurance, General Liability, Workers Compensation, Commercial Auto and Contractors Liability Insurance.

This is just one example of how M.A.M.I. Insurance can be of great help to a commercial client. The team at M.A.M.I. won’t hesitate to put on a hard hat and get the job done right!

Visit Aventura and you’ll likely notice the large international community. The draw to the Aventura, Sunny Isles Beach area is due to the many attractions – the beach, shopping, golf, and overall relaxed lifestyle. In fact, in a recent posting by Jared Goyette, on the Miami Herald Aventura channel, he references that Brazilian tourism in South Florida is on the rise. Also, linked in that quick posting is a mention of an interesting Sun Sentinel article.

A quick Youtube search revealed this video made by what appears to be a Brazilian either visting Aventura or living in the area and sharing their love for the mall.

Here’s a clipping from the piece. Read full article here.

“In July alone, we welcomed thousands of Brazilians to the shopping center through our various tour and hotel partners, and are expecting excellent results through the rest of the year.”

The Sun-Sentinel reported on the trend last Wednesday, and the statistics that writer Dorren Hemlock cited were impressive: “last year the number of Brazilians visiting Florida rose 29 percent and their spending spending jumped 36 percent.”

Aventura is surrounded by waterways that intertwine throughout the various neighborhoods. Theses include Maule Lake and The Waterways Harbor which are directly visible from popular walking paths. Other waterways are more private and located behind condos. There have been several sightings of garbage in these waters. It’s really a shame, but there doesn’t seem to be anything that can be done to prevent this from happening. The garbage is not necessarily arriving on the shoreline or next to the walkways from people tossing garbage over the railings; it’s likely from someone littering far from Aventura. The trash travels with the current and makes its home here – even the garbage wants to live in Aventura. Of course if residents notice anyone throwing bottles and trash into the water, please tell them to stop or call the police – it should not be tolerated.

View our beautiful natural resource, Maule Lake, in this amazing photo by Claudia Domenig – Maule Lake Aventura It’s unfortunate, but beer bottles have gathered at the corner by Admirals Port and Biscayne Cove.

I have a new obsession. I recently bought my first pair of Vibram Five Fingers shoes (www.vibramfivefingers.com) and have been giggling ever since. The idea behind these gloves for your feet is that we, as human beings have undergone thousands of years of adaptations to look and function the way we do. Why then should we need sneakers? Some theorize that without sneakers that alter our natural step and posture, we would eliminate myriad knee problems and back injuries. So far, I would agree.

Not only do they feel incredible (once you break them in a bit) but they’ve proven to be the most versatile shoes I’ve ever owned. They’re also a great conversation starter. On a recent trip to Israel, I climbed up Massada at sunrise, hiked for hours in the Golan Heights, walked through a wadi that feeds into the Jordan River and floated in the Dead Sea with these incredible shoes. Not only did they make an impression on all the new people I met (including an Israeli soldier who was as excited as me to meet someone else who owned a pair), but they also provided an amazing grip while maneuvering around unstable rocks, and sandy surfaces. They dried within 5 minutes of getting wet and felt like a foot massage on rougher terrain.

Best of all, they’re hand and machine washable so I cleaned them after every wear!

Now I’m back in Aventura and ready to wear these all over the place and maybe make a new friend or two. The only negative I’ve experienced so far (and no, I’m not talking about the shock on people’s faces when they first see me in them) is how loud they are while running on the treadmill. The rubber soles smack so hard that I’ve opted not to sprint in the gym while wearing them.

Go get a pair and let us know what you think!

If you don’t want to take it from me, check out this Wall Street Journal article of the hundreds of others that have been written lately: Vibram Five Fingers

Recently, free agent, and fresh ex-Bills WR Terrell Owens has gained more interest for his famed VH1 reality show (“The T.O. Show”) than from NFL teams looking to give him a job. Now I know what you’re thinking…Owens may be right for some NFL team, just not ours. Well, what exactly concerns you about T.O.? Let’s ask a series of pertinent questions:

Can he still play at a high level?
The answer to that is plainly “yes”. Let’s look at last year’s stint with the Buffalo Bills who sported the highly intimidating [not] combination of Trent Edwards and Ryan Fitzpatrick as its starting QB’s. Owens caught 55 passes for 829 yards and scored 5 TD’s. He also ran the ball 6 times for 54 yards and 1 score. Among all NFL receivers, he was 33rd in total receptions (as good as Steve Breaston, Jeremy Maclin); 26th in receiving yards (better than Percy Harvin, Pierre Garcon); and tied for 28th in receiving TD’s (as good as Calvin Johnson, Anquan Boldin and better than Greg Jennings, Wes Welker). He also accounted for the longest TD reception of the year: 98 yards vs. the Jaguars. So, he also has maintained his signature big-play ability. All these stats are readily accessible at NFL.com.

Is he injury prone?
Absolutely not. Owens started and finished all 16 games he appeared in ’09 and has missed a total of 2 games in the last 4 seasons. He is unquestionably one of the most durable and well-conditioned athletes ever to play in the league. In an era where dependability and durability is at a premium with so many primadona athletes, he is a throwback you can count on.

Are there teams that could use him as a No. 2 receiver?
Definitely. How about these: The Dolphins opposite Marshall? The Pats opposite Moss (with Welker in slot)? The Ravens opposite Boldin? The Broncos – as their No. 1 (or at least opposite Royal)? The Chargers opposite Vincent Jackson? The Texans opposite Andre Johnson? The Titans opposite Britt? The Jags opposite Sims-Walker? The Raiders opposite anyone? The Redskins opposite Santana Moss? The Bears opposite Hester or as a No. 1? The Lions opposite Megatron? The Rams – as their clear No. 1 and opposite Avery? The 49ers opposite Crabtree? The Seahawks opposite Housh?

So why no takers?
The obvious reason is because he has been viewed by some as a disruptive force to team chemistry. Owens himself recently admitted that this perceived reason is the primary impediment to finding employment right now. His past reported disagreements with teammates such as Eagle’s QB Donavan McNabb, and the drama that erupted when he was a member of the Cowboys are well-chronicled. Perhaps it is simply the publicity that teams want to avoid and which follow T.O. wherever his initials take him. Maybe he just wants to get paid No. 1 money, when at age 36, second level pay is the best he can hope for.

My take is this: T.O. is still a force that can help a team who is serious about upgrading their offensive output. Of course the GM, coach, and team will deal with the hoopla that follows such a megastar. But in this age of tweets, re-negotiated contracts, reality shows, and me-me personas, shouldn’t that be par for the course? Doesn’t the upside justify the baggage, whether perceived or not? So here’s my question to the Dolphins’ President of Football Operations, Bill Parcells: Can you forgive past dealings with T.O. in Dallas and allow a once-in-a-decade chance to help this team now? I know you like Hartline, Camarillo and Best, but honestly, these are 3rd WR’s trying to fill a No. 2 hole opposite arguably the best WR in the game in Marshall (for years known as “Baby T.O.). Take a hint from the Heat’s Pat Riley: Dare to be great…again.
If you don’t believe me, see Yahoo! Sports piece on this very subject.

Update: Two days after first writing this blog, it was reported that Owens is in serious contract talks with both the Rams and the Bengals. Owens has reportedly been working out with Cincy QB Carson Palmer. Owens, Ocho and Bryant would indeed be a formidable trio if T.O. signs with Gals.

That’s all for now.

The press release for the show gives a great explanation of the musical style of Seu Jorge, here’s the release…

A star musician and actor, with a style both funky and cool, SEU JORGE has become one of the most popular Brazilian artists today. He makes a long awaited return to Miami Beach following sold out dates in 2005 and 2006 with his new band ALMAZ. They perform at the Fillmore Miami Beach at the Jackie Gleason Theater July 23rd.

Seu Jorge came to fame acting in two cult films. In Brazil he starred as Knockout Ned in 2003’s City of God; in the US he was the scene-stealing troubadour in 2005’s The Life Aquatic, serenading Team Zissou with Portuguese versions of David Bowie classics. Seu Jorge’s US debut tour built on the audience developed through these roles, and the band enjoyed sold-out crowds at festivals and venues across the country. Seu Jorge is that rare artist who is successfully able to bridge the language gap between Portuguese and English, and whose fame as a musician began first in the US before spreading across Brazil.

A live show with Seu Jorge quickly leads American music lovers into a crash course in Brazilian music, building on a base of classic samba with a dose of funk. It bears the hallmark of Favela Chic, the trendsetting Paris club-restaurant-production team who co-produced Seu Jorge’s early work. The songs are both groovy and sophisticated. This summer, he will release a new CD with Almaz, once again featuring his deep, soul-piercing voice and heavy Brazilian grooves.

Seu Jorge was raised in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He joined a theater company after school to escape the pervasive gang violence and to become a role model to his younger brothers after another brother was killed in a drug lord-police battle. In the mid 90s he became known as a musician with his group Farofa Carioca, leading to a solo career working with Mario Caldato (Beastie Boys).

ALMAZ:
-Seu Jorge’s new work is about a band: ALMAZ. Drummer Pupillo and guitarist Lucio Maia from the legendary Nação Zumbi; bassist and composer Antonio Pinto from the soundstages of movies starring Seu Jorge. They came together naturally to record a song for a Walter Salles film. They enjoyed the experience so much that they recorded an entire album, free of convention, of music that inspired them. Songs famous within the Brazilian diaspora mesh with classic American and European soul songs begging for a bit of psychedelic samba. They enlisted Caldato to put the finishing touches on the project. And now Almaz springs forth with an album both warm and dark, psychedelic yet grounded, uplifting but at times somber.
