The other day we received an email regarding our blog posts. This is meant to be a neighborhood blog and we encourage participation from our readers. There are many issues and concerns as wellas events and excitement within the City of Aventura. We’d love to have more of our readers send information and request postings along with our business showcase posts.

Here’s a great start sent in from one of our local readers. She sent the following…

“Have you thought about posting a blog for Aventura residents that have questions or comments about things going on. For instance, I overlook the Turnberry Lake and noticed today that we have two new residents. 2 large rosetta spoon bill wading birds. We also have 2 flamingo’s and many swans that live here. Is there any way to find out if Turnberry or the City of Aventura had anything to do with their being here?

Just a thought for possible community interest.

Thanks.

Jill”

Thanks Jill. Love the topics and I’ve wondered the same thing when I walk around the circle. I’m not sure where to get your answers, but maybe someone out there will comment and set you on the right track. Keep the emails flowing we’ll post them.

Aventura has many parks that its residents can enjoy – Founders Park, Veterans Park to name a few. There’s also Greynolds Park about two minutes outside Aventura, FL. That being said, the value of parks are extremely important to every city. Our parks are new, but the concept of city parks is very old. I hope that these new parks in Aventura create the same type of bond with their residents as several parks in New York City.

We have a lot of readers from New York and even those not from New York know Washington Square Park. It has history, style, and a heartbeat of its own. The people of New York experience their parks on a regular basis and have create a relationship with these common areas within the city. Washington Square Park has been under construction for years now and it has effected the quality of life of residents and visitors in the area. I used to live right on the park and understand the loss of this holy ground while it’s under construction.

Washington Square Park located in Greenwich Village of New York City is a symbol of freedom, a place of radical expression, hipsters, gangsters, punks, musicians, poets, street performers, families, artists, students, philosophers – it defined the Village of NYC in countless ways. Specifically, it truely was a spot in our civilized society where anyone could feel comfortable in their own skin and be themselves. Over the years the styles of people changed, but the park remained constant. The grit and ageing structures organically developed and gave Washington Square Park its charm.

For sometime now, this park has been under construction. This has robbed New Yorkers and tourist from the magic of Washington Square. NYU is based around this park and has been the center of campus life for years – it’s the unofficial, official campus lawn of NYU. This is where graduations were held and the construction has forced students to graduate at Yankee Stadium. I graduated from NYU and feel awful that students are missing the memory of hanging in the park during the school year and jumping in the fountain after graduation. During the year 2000 graduation a student stripped nude and jumped in the fountain (he made it into the New York Times). The park caused people to do those things. It motivated you to live and reminded you to be yourself.

I came across a blog that is focused on Washington Square Park. It’s an amazing blog that is truly hyper local. In the spirit of our local Aventura blog, the Washington Square Park blog is highly relevant to local residents and an international base of daily visitors. I was inspired when I discovered the Washington Square blog and realized the power of blogging to a city. It’ll soon be that people will blog about their block, street, or floor of their apartment building. Every city will have a network of local bloggers reporting news and featuring businesses and services in their area. The WSP blog is developing a voice of those that remember the park and want it back. That blog is here to stay, I encourage our readers to visit this blog - http://washingtonsquarepark.wordpress.com/

Anyone interested in blogging about the parks in Aventura. Let’s start one and begin to create a record of experiences and history of our parks in their infancy. Drop us a line and we’ll get you started.

Start reading the Washington Square Park blog today!
