Barnes & Noble Closing

December 27th, 2012 · 7 Comments

The mark of 2013 will be an end to Barnes & Noble in Aventura. Located at 18711 Biscayne Boulevard, Aventura, FL 33180, this store has been there close to twenty years. This bookstore has been a local gathering place, study room, and social destination for years. The store even had a fun kids location that will be greatly missed by all those toddlers that loved the train set. This marks a new era in Aventura.

The rumor floating around, amongst the employees, is that the massive space will be divided to make room for several other retail and restaurant locations. It’s great to add new destinations to any city; however, a bookstore offers a certain reassurance that digital still hasn’t fully taken over our lives. Will the NOOK be the new BN? The closest Barnes & Noble is in Ft. Lauderdale – there was one off of Stirling Road but it closed this year as well.

The empty shelves and closed off sections feel more like a crime scene mystery, than a mega-bookstore celebrating their stay in Aventura.

BN will be missed. Share with us your memories of Barnes & Noble in Aventura.

As a Miami native its a little sad to see so many of these changes taking place. The Barnes & Noble in Leomans plaza was definitely the go to place to study, meet with friends then catch a movie & hang out at the arcade when I was growing up. Then to see my son meet with friends & tutors to prepare for S.A.T’s….. What’s left for the new generation??

this well sucks as i liked coming here and reading, and getting my fantasy novels and manga right from here, although the manga section was light, it was the last bookstore near to where i lived. It really sucks that there’s literally no more bookstores near me.

How can a city not have one bookstore? Another example of no community. You should all be ashamed.
