Join us on MomsAventura.com for all the local buzz and things to do in the area for moms. Here’s a fun posting that many of you dealt with this past summer – traveling with children. Many Aventura families are “Snow Birds” which means that when the cold months return many Aventura Moms will be flying with their kids back to sunny Aventura FL.

Flying with kids can be a bit challenging. It doesn’t matter how well-behaved your kids kids are, or how excited they are to get back to The Sunshine State–flying with children can still be pretty stressful!

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be! The following tips for traveling with children which will help you’re your return flight to Aventura.

1. Get to the Airport Early.
This might seem counter intuitive at first. After all, won’t this just result in (at best) bored children or (at worst) kids who are finding way too much to get into?

Not necessarily. In fact, your kids will be much easier to deal with if they don’t feel rushed or hurried.

Most importantly, you won’t have the added stress of trying to check in late, and wondering if you’ll even make the flight at all. Life is easier for the whole family when you make it to the airport on time.

2. Remember the “Pressure Treats”
Probably the most difficult thing about traveling with babies on a plane is the change in air pressure. That stuff really hurts!

It doesn’t just affect babies–it affects older kids too. Even teenagers aren’t always sure what to do when the pressure in their ears begins to build.

It’s not usually a great idea to give your kids the advice to “just hold your nose and blow.” In fact, that’s terrifying for some of them!

Instead, give them some gum or let them have a small drink. The swallowing motion should help them even out the pressure.

For crying babies on a plane, a pacifier, small bottle, or (if possible) nursing session will usually do the trick.

3. Team Up with Other Parents who are Traveling with Babies and Children to Aventura

The good synergy you can get going when you team up with other families is amazing. Coordinating your flight with other families will allow you to have someone to talk to while your children have someone to play with. This can help out a lot with the pre-flight jitters–especially if you have a flight delay. And seeing familiar faces can help put everyone at ease, which makes the entire trip more fun for everyone.

These tips for vacationing with children should go a long way in making your next flight with your kids more enjoyable. You can also check out the Miami International Airport’s Kids Corner for other helpful suggestions for flying with children of all ages.
