Tebow in Miami Controversy

October 23rd, 2011 · 10 Comments

Thoughts on Fins/Tebow and Week 7 NFL/Fantasy Picks

Each week I will pick at least 5 games for which I have confidence in results against the spread. This week’s Top 6 high-to-medium confidence picks are below. Spreads are as of Saturday’s Herald. This week’s Fantasy Sleepers follow a brief editorial on the Dolphins.

1. PIT (-3.5) @ ARZ
2. NYJ (+2) vs. SD
3. WAS (+2.5) @ CAR
4. GB (-9) @ MIN
5. BAL (-7.5) @ JAC
6. DAL (-12) vs. STL (with or without Bradford)

My thoughts on Fins and Tebow scenario in Denver @ Miami game:

There is no dispute that the Dolphins season is in shambles and that fans have invariably lost hope for anything but an opportunity to draft the number 1 rated player in next year’s draft (or sell it for a Herschel Walker / Ricky Williams-like assortment of picks/players ransom). This year’s dismal failure is in no small part due to the management of the organization. This management, consisting primarily of Owner Ross, President Dee, and GM Ireland are to blame for lots of problems such as: flubbing an interview with Dez Bryant with egg publicly placed on their collective faces (especially Ireland’s); giving Parcells full grocery-shopping rights as football director but letting him leave due to lack of proper contractual restraints before he finished the job (a job that wasn’t done well from the beginning); negligently leaking head coaching offers to the media leaving Sparano in a lame-duck situation and then giving him an extension when it was un-deserved; hiring the OC of a 30th ranked Browns’ offense to improve upon a 28th-ranked offense; more botched draft picks and personnel moves, and the list goes on… but there is one move by the front office that hits home and is particularly reprehensible to this writer.

This Sunday, the Denver Broncos visit the Miami Dolphins’ home stadium to play a football game. The quarterback of the visiting team is none other than Tim Tebow, the well-known ex-Gator who was the Heisman-trophy winning QB of the 2008-09 Gators National Championship team. The Dolphins management (led by President Mike Dee on this one), has seen fit to honor the aforesaid championship team on the day that the Broncos and Dolphins face off. Granted, this “honoring” was scheduled quite some time ago, but it was known by all involved that Tebow was on the Broncos’ roster, and that there was a possibility that he may play or even start against the home team. Well, low and behold, Tebow is the starter. Now, I get the fact that the Fins are a losing team trying to sell tickets. But also keep in mind that one of the advantages of a home-field game is that the host is supposed to have the bulk of fans cheering for – well…the home team. I suspect that given the following of Gator fans in So. Fla., there will be thousands of No. 15 (Tebow’s number) jerseys out there with attendant fans cheering boisterously for well…the visitors. Is it good for ticket sales? Yes. Is it a slap in the face of Dolphins fans? I think so. Oh, and by the way, the local college team – you may have heard of them – the University of Miami Hurricanes – are a tenant of the Dolphins’ home stadium. I think the Fins’ management didn’t consider that an issue….Oh well, they’re not doing much of a job improving their own team either. Unless of course, this is all part of a master plan to get the No. 1 pick next year!

Week 7 Fantasy Sleepers (*now a sleeper due to falling or mixed expectations):

hey eric, you make some nice points, but fail to
ever mention what ails the fins and other poorly
    managed organizations. CRONYISM.
Just look around the league….failed, pathetic coaches are rehired by cohorts and buddies based
on nothing more than friendship and past favors.
Wannstedt and many more familiar faces are hired as assistants making top $$$$ when better,
    younger talent is more deserving.

    Sporano the morono now has
Matt moor-ono to share the blame
    and ineptitude.

    final—doofins-3 broncos-0

doofins miss 6 fg`s so no sporano fist pumps.

I love Ray Lewis and the Ravens and the over 39.

Ravens-8 and over 39 points is the way to go.

few things in life are this easy !

hey eric, i`m still shocked at the Ravens performance this past monday. What happened ?

Jags played staunch run defense and surprisingly put pressure onFlaco forcing many errant throws. Flaco is overrated by the way.

hey eric, I clearly saw the staunch defense. I wanted a more detailed analysis as to how such a horrific team like JAX, with their Curtis painter-like QB competed with a likely super-bowl winner. I witnessed said Ravens tear apart the steelers 3 weeks ago. More analysis please.

hey eric, why does dolphin ownership insist on torturing us fans by allowing sporano morono to
remain on the sidelines. How do fans continue supporting lethargy and indifference, albeit with 30 percent of stadium empty.

Jags D is underrated. Once Flacco is forced to throw and faces pressure he crumbles. Jags had great field position all night so Gabbert didn’t need to make lots of throws. MJD took some pressure off him as did WR Jasin Hill. Schobe had career FG game. That’s how they did it. Btw, Gabbert will be a star one day. He’s no Painter.
