Celebrating 25 Years of Hebraica

May 27th, 2010 · No Comments

The Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center hosted the Hebraica celebration of the School of Madrichim and 25 years of programs in South Florida. Hebraica is a Jewish organization geared towards the Latin community. The South Florida group started in the early eighties and eventually created an alliance with MAR JCC. It offers Latin Jews a place to connect with each other to build a community and learn about their Jewish identity.

The School of Madrichim is a year long leadership program for High School students and finalizes with a four week summer trip to Israel. Yesterday, these students gathered with their families and friends to celebrate their program and to honor those that have made the organization possible for 25 years. Also, the students and Hebraica group remembered the memories of members that passed away and continue to inspire this thriving organization.

This event was a passing of the torch to the next generation of Madrichim. Many past Madrichim were present and shared laughs as their old photos were projected on the screen. It was clear that 25 years of great times were created by Herbraica and it has brought together many Jewish families from across the globe. The night concluded with live music by members of Herbraica. There’s always a lot of energy at any Hebraica event and yesterday was no exception. If you’re a member or familiar with the organization share your thoughts and post a comment.
