The red light cameras in Aventura have been a source of controversy since they were installed. Yesterday the Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jerald Bagley’s ruling voids Aventura camera use. The decision Monday could have an impact on similar lawsuits pending against other Florida cities. However, the judge did not issue an injunction and we can expect the City to appeal. This is a clear indication that snapping pictures and mailing citations is not that simple.
The other question is what this lawsuit will mean for the company that Aventura and other cities have contracted with to provide the technology. “Aventura contracted with Arizona-based American Traffic Solutions to use specialized cameras to cite red-light runners with code violations instead of traffic violations.” Read Full Article.
